Have you ever been given a bottle of whisky for a birthday, Christmas or any other special occasion?
Have you been given a bottle off of a friend or relative that was not going to drink it, then just put it to the back of a shelf or cupboard and forgotten? Or are you keeping them for a special occasion?
Some of these bottle could now be worth hundreds if not thousands of pounds!
For example, a bottle of Macallan 12 year old that would have cost in the region of £30 in the late 1990s early 2000s would now sell for around £300 a bottle…
Or a bottle of black Bowmore which could have been picked up for £70 in 1993. Bottles from this first edition were limited to 2000 bottles and can each up to £15000 or even more.
Recently Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 which retailed for around £100 before Jim Murray’s 2015 whisky bible named it the worlds best whisky, if you sold one today it could go for around £3600.
Or Hibiki 12 year old which only a couple of years ago could have been pick up in your local supermarket for £40 is now selling for £400 at auction, a 10 fold increase in only a couple of years.
